Pre-Employment Medicals

Workplace health and safety is critical in any industry, it not only places value on the health and safety of employees, but it also reduces risk for the employers and keeps a business thriving with productivity. Pre-employment medicals are designed to assess the medical suitability of the worker for the designated position and accommodate their needs for the future to come.

Whether you are getting back into the workforce or wanting to monitor the health of your workers to meet OHS guidelines. Medicals Australia United has your back covered. We provide a standard pre-employment medical that can be adjusted to meet the needs of your workplace or clientele.

Basic components can include:

Many occupations require physical demands of the employee, ensuring that a worker meets these capabilities is vital to their health and wellbeing, along with the productivity of the business, reducing risk within the workplace. A pre-employment functional assess the physiological suitability of the employee for their position. At Medicals Australia we provide a comprehensive standard Pre-Employment Functional that does just that.

The functional looks at a range of motion and other musculoskeletal tests, posture, Balance, Grip strength, Cardiovascular and manual handling, assessing the suitability and risk of the employee.

As of 2017, The Queensland Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy (DNRME) set out guidelines for the monitoring and surveillance of mine and quarry workers who are exposed to Silica Material. Silica or Silicon dioxide is a natural material formed in rock, sand & soil and can be found in concrete, rock, granite, masonry, and landscaping materials. The purpose of this is to provide early diagnosis, intervention, and prevention of Silica-related illnesses and diseases for the worker.  Part of these guidelines is the recommendation of Respirable Crystaline Silica Medicals. This provides OHS safe entry and exit for the workers into these exposure sites, along with continual monitoring at least every 5 years.

The Coal Services Health Monitoring Requirements for Coal Mine Workers Order No. 45 (Order 45) plays a critical role in ensuring NSW coal mine workers are appropriately screened for health impacts associated with occupational exposures, including dust, noise, chemicals, and other workplace hazards.

Administered by Coal Services under the Coal Industry Act 2001 (NSW), the health assessments outlined in Order 45 not only assess occupational risks but can also identify other health and lifestyle-related conditions that may affect a worker’s ability to perform their role safely and effectively.

Regular health monitoring enables the early identification of both occupational and non-occupational conditions, often before symptoms develop. This early detection supports timely intervention, effective treatment, and preventative measures — helping to protect workers and maintain long-term workforce health.

The health surveillance scheme also supports NSW coal industry employers in meeting their work health and safety obligations, ensuring the ongoing health, safety, and wellbeing of their workforce.
